Meet the Bloggers

After a nice wee meet up enjoyed by all last summer, myself and Jeff were discussing trying to get some bloggers together (from all sides and none) of an evening. Nothing special you understand, a wee coffee/ beer/ Irn Bru and a blether - about politics, life, things that annoy you etc etc...

Anyway, as Jeff and I (and, I think, half the Scottish blogosphere) work and live in Edinburgh, we were thinking somewhere here, and sometime soon. But that is as much as we'd worked out.

Anyone have any suggestions as to places? Dates?

Course, this is going to fall flat if no one really wants to come. Maybe I should have left the organising to Jeffrey...

Note: Probably safe to assume that neither of the famed bloggers picture above will be in attendance...

How about we all get together at the scottish tory conference on the 15th may? ; )

Joking apart that sounds good. I'm in edinburgh from the 12th April - 23 may?!

Pub?

Holyrood Patter 7 April 2009 at 14:36

im all for it in theory
but weekends arent good for me, which probably sets me at odds with everyone else.
Jeff has tasked himself (with some reluctance) with getting a meet up organised at SNP conference next week.
Let me know the time/place/dates and Ill endavour to be in attendance!

Malc 7 April 2009 at 14:38

HP - I reckon an after work thing will work better for most people. Probably a mid-week (Wednesday) evening in late April... but I guess we'll see how we go with people being able to go.

I would love to come but it doesn't look like I'll be well enough for at least the next few weeks.

Let me know where and when, though, and I'll be there if I can.

Chris 7 April 2009 at 14:47

I'm up for that too... Would be good to put faces to names! Anytime apart from conference weekend works... So as Malc says, late in April is good.

Drinks! With you lot! Again!!!!

Yeah count me in wild horses wouldn't keep me away. It was a great raninbow of political opinion last summer and for anyone who wasn't there I can thoroughly recommend you try and get along.

Fights will be kept to a minimum (I'm sure either Kezia or Caron if they turn up will be more than compotent referees) ;)

I'd come as long as work doesn't hold me up. Perth would have been a good location but you all seem based in Edinburgh. Seems as if it's only Stuart Winton and myself who aren't. Never mind, us northerners are fearless :)

(The thought of battling through these roadworks is rough. My Garmin doesn't keep up with them).

Just to say that I would be up for coming along to another meetup. I was in another world at the last one, so it would be good to try again! :)

subrosa i live in greenock.
im just that dedicated to blogging meet ups
or i have no life
you decide..

Yousuf Hamid 7 April 2009 at 16:42

Sadly exams will keep me away from the Burgh for the next 6 weeks or so but if it was after that I would gladly attend!

I'm receiving too many seriously threatening emails. I don't think this kind of thing is feasible for me. Sorry.

Caron: Get well soon! :-)

Mark McDonald 7 April 2009 at 17:42

Hmmm, depending on the date in question I might be able to wangle a wee trip to the Burgh and back.

Keep me posted.

Jeff 7 April 2009 at 19:04

Count me in, which I'm pleased to see you have already.

Yousuf, tempted to brave the SNP bloggers meet? We'll be in Glasgow. (Not that I've got it up and running yet as HP was kind enough to remind me...!) Will keep you posted anyway.

Sounds like a cracking turnout so far. Great effort from the various out-of-towners...

Yousuf Hamid 7 April 2009 at 19:34

Yeah I'd love too Jeff! Let me know the details!

Malc 7 April 2009 at 20:57

Well, that seems like a pretty good response! Almost overwhelmed!

Apologies Subrosa, but as I mentioned in the post, most people are in Edinburgh I think so it makes most sense to be here I think.

At the moment, I'm thinking a Wednesday night, perhaps the 22nd or the 29th of April around 7pm. Probably somewhere on the Royal Mile - easy to find and close enough to the train station that anyone who might wish to travel in for it would be able to get there fairly swiftly.

Does anyone have a preference for a date or a place?

Jess The Dog 7 April 2009 at 21:22

Let me know - I work in town and can make anywhere near Waverley. Thursdays are bad for me, most other nights OK.

Kezia Dugdale 7 April 2009 at 22:46

Will do my best to be there once a date's set.

subrosa 7 April 2009 at 23:01

Holyrood Patter, I'm at the foot of the Grampians but still in Perthshire, Dundee and Perth are my nearest cities. Not to worry I'll do my best, work permitting, to get to Edinburgh, it's a lovely trip on a fine evening.

Can't think of anyone other than Stuart from this area. Strangely I don't know any bloggers from the Aberdeen area does anyone else?

Holyrood Patter 8 April 2009 at 01:02

im in edinburgh on the 28th
but in glasgow on the 29th
at work both days till around 5 so if we are talking those two dates im grand

David Farrer 8 April 2009 at 15:25

I hope to be able to make this one.

Bill 12 April 2009 at 21:47

@Subrosa

Mark McDonald is in the Aberdeen area - and he's on your side of the political spectrum, too:

As for me, well if I was at home in Nairn I'd try and make it down to Edinburgh or Glasgow for a pan-Scottish meet, but I won't return from Spain (my winter home) 'til mid-May so I regret I won't be able to make it on this occasion. I hope it goes well.

Richard Thomson 12 April 2009 at 22:24

Think I qualify as being from the Aberdeen area these days :-)

Will see how things lie nearer the time. Delightful as it would be to meet up, weekends are a better bet for me than having to take a day off.
