Monty got a raw deal...
A picture of someone other than Sarah Palin...
Away from politics (shock horror) and I'm sorry to see that Nick Faldo has left Colin Montgomerie out of Europe's Ryder Cup team. Monty's absence for the first time since 1989 leaves the team without a Scottish representative - the first time that has happened since 1937 I think.
It is well known that Faldo doesn't really get on with Monty all that well and that may have played a large part in his decision to drop his from the team - although Monty himself says that he wouldn't have picked himself given his less than tremendous recent form.
It won't be the same without him. Sad times...

I don't know, sometimes the old guard have to let the fresher, more exciting young turks in to have their chance to shine.
(Something John McCain and Gordon Brown should be wary of!)
PS Monty's a moany toe-rag aswell, much better to have Ian "my trousers are pinker than yours" Poulter in the camp for the craic....
'Mon Jeff. Poulter's a plonker. Monty has a great record in the Ryder Cup - and he always has a smile on his face in that format (as opposed to when he can blame everyone from the camerman to the weather man for his dismal form.
Experience may count in this contest - just as it may in others...!
To be fair Malc, and I'd probably say this even if there wasn't a hint of partisanship in the conclusion, Poulter may have a better claim over Monty based on the ranking lists but Darren Clarke would excede both on current form and be an equal to Monty in terms of Ryder Cup experience far surpassing Poulter.
I would rather hace seen Clarke there than Poulter. All I'm saying is I think Faldo let personal feelings get in the way of objectivity... Guess we're all guilty of that though!
Nothing to do with them both being Hertfordshire lads of course. After all hurricanes hard ever happen ;)
Faldo couldn't have picked Monty because of his appalling form, & what does the nationality of a player have to do with anything?
Anyway he could hardly leave out the second-best player in the world could he?! ;)
Sam,
I didn't really expect Monty to be in on current form - but if that's what your judging it on, what is Poulter doing there?! He's missed 2 cuts in a row while Clarke has been steady...
Faldo went for someone that could talk the talk. Let's see if he can actually play golf...
ps - you should write a blog.
Poulter got himself into position to win the Open & forced Harrington to pull it all out to beat him. He's certainly got the ego required for the pressure (read bias & unsporting behaviour/cheating) Europe will face in the ridiculously-named Valhalla Golf Club.
Actually I don't know why I'm arguing, Poulter's an ego with a mouth, and Clarke & Casey would have been my picks.
PS I don't have the stamina, my default position is rant and if people want that the Daily Mail exists (although obviously we have slightly different positions on everything)
