Tories show liberal side

"Gays have a duty to vote Conservative."

This is an interesting take on the Tories evolution.

The words "gay" and "Tory" used to only crop up in sentences with the verb "bashing" somewhere in the mix. But now - at least according to several Conservative candidates - the party is much more inclusive.

According to the BBC piece, there are 2.5 million gay electors in the UK.

2.5 million new Tory voters? Probably not. But progress for the Tories.

UPDATE: I see that the Tories appeal doesn't stretch to some...

Fair enough, although the notion that any identifiable minority has a "duty" to vote for any particular party is arguably less than liberal in itself!

Especially when its the Party and not the minority in question which is describing itself as "amazing".

While they are now taking a more liberal stance of homosexual affairs which may attract more of the young gay vote. And while they are riding the back of Tory Boys in the gay press. I don't think they will make significant inroads in the older gay community before they see just what steps they take if/when they resume power.

Only elephants have longer memories than a gay community scorned.
